EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW for bigFM February 19th 2009

Misha Williams LAMP bigFM Radio Interview:

Q. Where were you born? Where from?

A.I was born in Houston, TX and have lived there all my life. However, while promoting my debut album, Take It Like It Is, I lived in London for a year in 2007. I have also traveled a bit to Europe and Denmark, and have spent some time in LA and Nashville.

Q. Who wrote your featured song, "She's Got It"?

A.I wrote “She’s Got It” with my Danish collaborators, John Gordon & Lene Dissing. It was the 2nd song we ever wrote together, and we finished writing the song and demo-ing it the same day we wrote it. ☺ The album includes 7 songs that we wrote together.

Q. Who performed, sang and played what instruments on that song?

A. Most of the instrumentation was arranged and recorded by my collaborator, John Gordon. He has a fantastic gift to create all of the pieces of a musical composition! He played the guitar and created all of the original programming. A Danish bass player named Mikkel Riber played bass, and additional guitars were done by Mads Fogt, also from Denmark. My other collaborator on this song, Lene Dissing, did many of the backup vocals on this track and the rest of my album. She has such an ear for different harmonies and adding little sections that make songs stand out! I also recorded backup vocals on the track and the rest of the album.

Q.Who recorded your feature song, and where did you record it?

A. “She’s Got It” was recorded by record producer John Ravenhall and programmer/engineer John Gordon. It was recorded in Aarhus, Denmark at Bedstone Studios.

Q. Tell us 3 exciting stories that have happened on your musical journey.

A. • The coolest thing happened when I was on a school tour in the UK to promote my album, Take It Like It Is. At Wensleydale Middle School in Blyth, England, the kids were absolutely amazing! When I started singing “She’s Got It,” EVERYONE started taking off their school-uniform ties and swung them around their heads!...Girls and boys. It was like this incredible wave of energy and excitement, and I’ve never felt more loved by an audience. One student threw a tie to me on stage, so I had to get involved. I swung that tie over my head and threw it back to the crowd! They kept doing it during the whole show! I took pictures of the crowds of students on my school tour and posted them on my myspace pics page if you wanna see these awesome kids! Sometimes whenever I’m performing to a crowd that’s not quite as energetic, I’ll picture the kids from Wensleydale Middle School in my head, and it will give me so much energy for the show!

• I did a large-scale release of my album in Japan and had some amazing experiences there. I was enjoying my view of Shibuya square from my 20th floor hotel room window, taking in the city and the fact that I was actually doing all of this in Tokyo. All the sudden, I look across the intersection and see MY music video for my first single “Unexpectedly” playing on the huge video screen on the side of the building. I could not contain myself. It was the most surreal feeling. I was all by myself on the trip and was yelling to myself, “Who can I call?? I have to tell somebody!!” It was incredible!

• I absolutely love making an impact on my listeners. After I performed at Wembley Arena in London on the Girls Aloud Greatest Hits Tour, I had the opportunity to get to know one of my greatest fans! Her name is Cheryl, and she came all the way from Germany to see 2 concerts on the tour! She contacted me through Myspace and started an awesome Myspace Fan Club site for me…and even created really cool graphics! I sent Cheryl some signed photos and contacted her to thank her for being such an awesome fan! I try to keep in touch with her as much as I can!

Q. Why you would like new fans to listen to your music? Why do you play music? What do you want to say to new fans, and big-FM?

A. There’s just something about music. It’s a universal thing that everyone under any circumstance can relate with. To me, music is the best way to connect with the rest of the world. I hope that I can inspire girls to really go for what they want and not be afraid. There have been moments in this business when I felt like people were trying to control me and take away the special things that make me “me,” but if you lose “you,” why are you doing what you do?? I love the personal relationships that you can create through music. People from across the world can get to know you through your songs without ever having met you, but my favorite thing is actually meeting someone who was impacted in some way by my music. That is why I write music.
